Large deluxe and whirlpool rooms in a fantastic 1889 mansion-turned-B&B. Rooms have a queen or king bed, mountain views, historic stained glass, cable TV, robes, candles and snacks. Accommodations
Our very large guests rooms are very private and each is uniquely decorated. We offer a king bed in Room #1; queens in all other rooms. Our "romance room" category has whirlpool tubs and a gas log fireplace (2 in Room#1!). The other rooms offer large modern showers. Room 5 has both a modern shower AND a claw leg tub plus its own balcony with 3-state view. Our amenities include individually-controlled heat/air, ceiling fans, in-rooms TVs, phone lines. WIFI, robes, candles, snack basket (free) and of course a tasty full breakfast. the property includes a lovely garden, front porch, porch swing for Room #1 and upstairs porch with three state view shared by the upstairs rooms. We have books, board games and an outdoor cat who will sit in your lap. The air is clean. Smell the trees. Enjoy the stars and fireflies. We have some snow (but not a lot in winter), warm but never terribly hot summers.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in our dining room between 8:30 and 10 a.m. on weekends with some time modifications on week days, when you happen to be the only guests in residence or if you are a business traveler with a full schedule. First course Fruit, juice, hot or cold beverage Second course Main dish might include Brown Sugar Oatmeal Pancakes, Baked Herbed Eggs with Fresh Basil or Stuffed French Toast, or Herbed Scrambled Eggs. We offer a side of bacon some days or sausage patties other days. Some meals also include freshly-baked muffins or quick breads. Coffee/tea/hot chocolate available 24/7 in the dining room at no cost.
Dining
We recommend Suba's in Mountain City 423-727-5657 (a wide selection prepared by the chef-owners along with some very tempting desserts by LuAnn Suba). Closed Sunday-Tuesday evenings. We also recommend The Tributary in Mountain city which offers a variety of Italian inspired pasta dishes, steaks, salads and more tempting desserts (especially cheese cake). Reservations no generally required. Closed Monday evenings and at 6 pm Sundays). 423-727-4150 www.TributaryofMC.com We think Tributary has a bit of the feeling of "Cheers..." You are always in a friendly place. Sorry, no beer. Mountain City is dry. You may BYO with no set up charge at either establishment.
Local Attractions
We offer up the great outdoors: from Grandfather Mountain (www.grandfather.com) to the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Virginia Creeper Trail (rails to trails for biking and hiking) to the Appalachian Trail. Or enjoy Watauga Lake, horse back riding, the mountain vistas. At the inn, we challenge you to relax, reconnect, sit, read or just sleep. We are 25 min. from Boone, NC, with lots of dining out, shops and Appalachian State University. We are 40 min. from Abingdon, VA, which features the Virginia Highland and Plum Alley Festivals, shops and dining. In between is the Virginia Creeper Trail and Trail Days in Damascus, VA. And to the southwest is Elizabethton, TN, known for its vintage auto cruise ins, still operating drive in theater, many antique shops and historic covered bridge. Downtown Mountain City features sveral antique shops and the new "Rain" Gallery of Fine Art. Just three miles from the inn is the phenomenal Redtail Mountain Golf Resort.
