Completed in 1885, the elegant 34 room mansion is filled with glorious examples of the hardwoods that brought Caswell prosperity. A founder of one of the state�s major enterprises, the Parkersburg Mill Company, Caswell selected his building materials to reflect the source of his success. His guests, men and women of prominence in the state, entered through two ten foot oak doors. They appreciated the richly grained walnut staircase of the entry way. Ascending to 25 feet, the oversized stairwell with carved balusters is illuminated by two magnificent stained glass windows.
