For several years I drove past 2109 Jefferson Street admiring it and wishing it were mine. The stately facade embodies the style and grace prominent Bluefield families built in the late 1800s when this home was set apart on an expansive lawn from most of the current neighbors. The Compton family built the home and ownership passed through such prominent families as the Maynards, then finally to Mrs. Helen Ryan.
When Mrs. Ryan put the house on the market in April 1995, I was able to purchase it and bring it back from the later years of use as a multiple apartment dwelling and boarding house. It then began to take on a new version of it''s former elegance as I sought to embellish the property.
